August Bank holiday weekend. West London. Which means one thing: Europe’s biggest street party. And an estimated 1million+ revellers – this year sweltering in record 33c heat as they enjoyed the 55th edition of the Notting Hill Carnival.

Behind the scenes, Crowd Connected were on site with carnival organisers, headed by executive director Matthew Phillips, who leads the team tasked with delivering a smooth and safe event. We were delighted to show our Colocator software in action at the carnival to none other than the Commissioner of London’s Met, Cressida Dick, Britain’s most senior police officer.

Ms Dick was visiting the carnival’s leadership team HQ to see first-hand how things were going, while 7,000 of her officers patrolled the streets. Speaking to London’s Evening Standard about the Carnival, Ms Dick praised carnival organisers and the police:

“It’s always challenging. It’s a unique operation, there’s nothing like it in the world: a million people attending over a couple of days in a reasonably confined space, with vehicles, and all the challenges that brings.”
